How to get to Venice
USEFUL TIPS TO MOVE AROUND THE CITY
Connecting from Venice to Lido
The IFSO EC 2025 congress will be held on the Lido di Venezia, often simply referred to as Lido. This slender island, approximately 11 kilometers long, forms a natural barrier between the Venetian Lagoon and the Adriatic Sea.
For your convenience in reaching Lido from Venice Marco Polo International Airport (VCE), here are the recommended modes of transport:
This is often the most convenient and scenic option, offering direct connections from the airport to Lido:
- Look for the Alilaguna ticket desks or automatic machines in the airport’s arrivals area.
- Several Alilaguna lines serve Lido (typically the Blue and Red lines). Ensure you check the specific stops for your hotel or the congress venue when purchasing your ticket.
- The journey time is approximately 50-60 minutes, depending on the line and the number of stops.
- Water bus stops on Lido are located at Piazzale Santa Maria Elisabetta (S.M.E.), which is the main transport hub on the island. From there, you can easily reach most hotels by foot, local bus, or taxi.
This is a more budget-friendly option, involving a land bus journey followed by a water bus (vaporetto):
From the Airport to Piazzale Roma (Venice):
- ATVO Airport Bus Express (Lines 25/35): This is a direct shuttle bus that reaches Piazzale Roma, the main bus terminal in Venice. Tickets can be purchased online, at the airport, or on the bus.
- ACTV Bus Line 5: This is a regular public bus that also connects the airport to Piazzale Roma. Tickets can be purchased at the airport or at authorized ACTV retailers.
From Piazzale Roma to Lido (S.M.E.):
- From Piazzale Roma, take ACTV vaporetto lines 5.1, 5.2, or 6 towards Lido S.M.E. The journey takes approximately 35-40 minutes.
- Check the ACTV website or information boards at Piazzale Roma for the most up-to-date routes and schedules.
- You can take a regular land taxi from the airport to the Tronchetto ferry terminal.
- From Tronchetto, take a vaporetto (typically line 17) to Lido S.M.E.
- This option is generally less direct and potentially more expensive than the Alilaguna or the bus + vaporetto combination.
We recommend checking the latest schedules and ticket information for all transport options closer to the conference dates, as these may be subject to change.
We look forward to welcoming you to Lido!
